Following the success of our Will’s Month, a reminder to all of the importance of making a valid Will – and by way of encouragement to those of you who have yet to make one!
Your Will is exactly that: your will, your wishes, a statement of what you wish to happen on your death. Without one you cannot choose the people who will administer your estate after you have died or the people who will inherit your assets.
For some, this may mean those who do benefit are not those you would have chosen or your spouse or civil partner gets too little. Even if you are married or in a civil partnership, remember if you have children and no Will, your spouse or civil partner gets only personal chattels, £125,000 and a life interest in half the rest! In addition you lose the opportunity to save money by inheritance tax planning through your Will.
Remember too, marriage or civil partnership revokes a Will unless it was stated to have been made in contemplation of that happy event.
We charge a fixed rate for Wills: £175 plus VAT for a single Will or and £300 plus VAT for mirror Wills for married couples or civil partners. This fixed rate is available until end of 2007. Where you need advice to take advantage of tax saving devices, we will can consider that with you and, if required, advise you at an additional charge.
