(A quick guide to the new smokefree law - courtesy of HM Government)
England will become smokefree on Sunday 1 July 2007: from that date it will be against the law to smoke in virtually all public places, workplaces, in public or work vehicles, indoor smoking rooms in virtually all public places and workplaces will no longer be allowed.
No smoking signs must be displayed in all smokefree premises and vehicles.
Managers of smoke free premises and vehicles will have a legal responsibility to prevent people from smoking
Anything that can be smoked is covered.
Failure to comply is a criminal offence if you smoke: £50 fixed penalty per smoker or maximum £200 if prosecuted and convicted and if you fail to affix your stickers £200 fixed penalty per manager or maximum £1000 if prosecuted and convicted and if you fail to prevent smoking a fine of £2,500 if prosecuted and convicted.
