Summer Newsletter - LOST YOUR DEEDS?
The legal system is slow (that you knew already!) In 1925 Parliamant introduced a system for land registration in England & Wales, yet some 82 years later some areas remain unregistered.
To register title to land, proof of ownership is required. But what if your land is unregistered and although you have possession of the land, you have lost the title deeds, those vital pieces of paper that would otherwise prove ownership?
The Land Registry begin by treating the title deeds as lost or destroyed so in place of lodging the normal title documents to show title when trying to register the land we have to give them:
An account of the events that have led to the loss or destruction of the deeds.
A reconstruction of the title: as best we can - with your help of course!
Your identification.
It is surprisingly painless and quick to register in this type of situation and if you have any specific queries relating to lost deeds, or any other conveyancing matter, please make an appointment with any member of our dedicated Conveyancing team.
